Accessibility statement for P16 Enrolment

This statement covers the P16 Enrolment website at www.p16.uk and the school portals at *.sixthform.org and *.p16.uk, where students apply, referees give references and school staff manage admissions. Educoda Ltd runs the service.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. We have built it to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA, which includes every requirement of version 2.1 AA.

How accessible this service is

We know some parts of the service are not fully accessible. The full list is under non-accessible content. On the pages we tested, you can:

  • skip the navigation and go straight to the main content with the keyboard
  • use the marketing site and the student dashboard with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline on links, buttons and form fields
  • choose subjects on the results day screens with a keyboard, using the Tab and Space keys
  • read the pages at a width of 320 pixels, which is the same as zooming to 400% on a 1280 pixel screen, without scrolling sideways
  • use form fields that have labels, with error messages that are linked to the field they describe

Schools and colleges that use P16 Enrolment are responsible for their own accessibility statements and for the content they add, such as notices, banners and email text. We publish this statement so that they can refer to it.

Feedback and contact information

If you have trouble using any part of this service, or you need information in a different format, such as large print, an easy read version or a plain text version, contact us.

Please tell us the web address of the page, what went wrong, and the device and assistive technology you use if you are happy to share it. You do not need to give your name.

We aim to reply within 5 working days. If we cannot fix a problem straight away, we will tell you what we can do instead, for example by helping you complete the task by email or phone.

You can also ask your school or college for help.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the accessibility regulations). The regulations apply to schools and colleges that are public sector bodies, which use this service.

If you contact us or your school or college with a complaint and you are not happy with the response, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which can advise you and help you to take your complaint further.

Technical information about this service's accessibility

Educoda Ltd is committed to making P16 Enrolment accessible. This service is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 level AA, because of the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not yet accessible. Each item names the WCAG success criterion it does not meet.

School portals: students and referees

  • Sessions end without warning. You are signed out after one hour of inactivity. We do not warn you or let you extend the session, and anything you typed since you last saved is lost. This does not meet WCAG 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable.
  • Cookie notice. The notice is fixed to the bottom of the screen and can cover part of the page, including a control that has keyboard focus, until you press OK. This does not meet WCAG 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum).
  • Address look-up. The address field on the contact details page uses a third-party look-up tool. Its suggestion list has not been tested with screen readers, and our set-up of it gives the field an autocomplete value that browsers do not recognise. This does not meet WCAG 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose. You can type the whole address by hand instead.
  • Qualification pickers. The lists used to add a qualification are built with a third-party library, Select2, that has limited screen reader support. This may not meet WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value. The qualification page has not yet been tested with a screen reader.
  • Human check on sign-in and forms. Sign-in, sign-up, password reset and the demo enquiry form use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated traffic. It is a third-party tool and we have not tested it with assistive technology. If you cannot complete it, email us and we will help you sign in. This may not meet WCAG 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum).
  • Heading levels. Some pages use card titles that skip heading levels, for example a level 5 heading straight after the page title. This makes the page structure harder to follow with a screen reader and does not meet WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships on those pages.
  • Page titles. Signed-in pages share one browser tab title, so the tab does not say which page you are on. Each page does have a main heading. This does not meet WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled.

School portals: staff screens

The staff screens were tested only for the shared layout, navigation and sign-in. They have not been tested page by page. We already know of the following.

  • Reordering results day groups. Groups can only be reordered by dragging. There is no button or keyboard alternative. This does not meet WCAG 2.5.7 Dragging Movements.
  • Charts. The charts on the cohort insights page have a short name only. The figures behind them are not given as text. This does not meet WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content.
  • Catchment area maps. Drawing a catchment area means clicking points on a map. This does not meet WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard. Staff can type a latitude and longitude for radius zones, but polygon zones can only be drawn on the map.
  • Data tables and guided tours. Staff tables use a third-party library, DataTables, and the guided tours use another. Neither has been tested with a screen reader.

Documents and email

PDF files the service produces, such as payment receipts and insight reports, and the HTML emails we send have not been checked for accessibility. We will check them as part of the work below.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We fixed the following on 10 October 2026, after the self-assessment described below.

  • Added a skip link and a main landmark to the student, referee, staff and sign-in pages.
  • Made subject choice cards on the results day and application screens focusable and operable with the keyboard, with their selected and unavailable states announced.
  • Gave progress bars, icon-only buttons, grade selectors and the address and phone fields accessible names.
  • Linked field errors to their fields and added error summaries to sign-up, password reset and authentication pages that had none.
  • Fixed a label that pointed at the wrong field on sign-up and password reset.
  • Removed positive tab index values on the sign-in page that put the Log in button before the human check in the tab order.
  • Darkened low-contrast text, links, buttons and status colours across the portals and the marketing site, and made keyboard focus outlines visible where the theme had removed them.
  • Stopped the header and long form labels from forcing sideways scrolling at 320 pixels.
  • Made the page title on portal pages a level 1 heading, and kept information and warning messages on screen until they are dismissed instead of hiding them after a few seconds.

We aim to fix the remaining items above, starting with session timeouts, the cookie notice and the staff drag-to-reorder control, by 10 April 2027. We will update this statement as each item is fixed. We will also ask a specialist to test the service with screen readers and speech recognition software.

How we tested this service

This statement was prepared on 10 October 2026 by Educoda Ltd. It is based on a self-assessment we carried out on that date. It has not been audited by a third party.

We tested:

  • every page of the marketing site at www.p16.uk
  • in the school portals, the sign-in and sign-up pages, the student dashboard, the profile sections, the results day subject choice screens and the referee form that referees reach from their emailed link

We used:

  • automated checks with axe-core 4.10 against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, followed by fixes and a second run
  • keyboard-only checks of the skip link, focus outlines and menus on the marketing site and the student dashboard
  • a reflow check at 320 pixels wide on the marketing site and on key portal pages
  • a colour contrast calculation for the colours used in the marketing site and the portal themes
  • a review of the page code for labels, headings, error messages, images and timeouts

We have not tested with screen readers or speech recognition software. Some pages could only be checked by reading their code because the test data was not available: the subject choices on the application form, the offer response page and the second step of the referee form.

This statement was last reviewed on 10 October 2026. We will review it again by 10 April 2027, and whenever we make a significant change to the service.
